As some blacksmiths and craftsmen say: "No matter how many knives you make, there will still be few." And really, why trifle? We bring to your attention another very interesting version of a homemade knife, and this time we will make it from an old wrench. Why not? Moreover, a hammer and anvil are not required.
Key Blade: Milestones
We make markings on the surface of the wrench and cut the knife blank with a grinder. Next, we process the blade on a belt grinding machine. The work ahead is long, so patience will not be out of place.
First, we remove the burrs and irregularities that remained after the grinder cutting, and then we grind the surface of the blade, form the slopes and the cutting edge. The knife handle in this case will be metal, so we try not to “cut” the tail part by grinding.
After machining, the blade must be hardened - for this we heat the red blade of the knife in a muffle furnace and lower it into a container with oil. Then we proceed to finishing manually using fine sandpaper. The inscriptions on the wrench can be removed with a drill.
The final stage and the finished result
At the last stage of work, it remains only to sharpen the cutting edge of the knife and polish the surface. The result is a very nice home-made blade made "cold", that is, without the use of hot forging. The step-by-step process can be seen in the video on the site.
