In this review, the master shows how to make a small straightening Damascus hammer with your own hands - for working with sheet metal in a garage or home workshop.

Such a straightening hammer is not only convenient to use, but also looks quite original in appearance. To make a hammer head, a lathe is required.

To make a head for a straightening hammer, the master uses an already prepared piece of Damascus steel in the form of a round blank.

First of all, the author “charges” the Damascus steel billet into a lathe and processes it, giving it the desired shape. Then in the center of the head you need to drill a hole for the handle.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, the author immerses the hammer head for a while in a solution of ferric chloride. Then it must be "rinsed" in a soda solution. And one more step - immersion in a bath with white vinegar. The result is such a beauty.

The author decided to make a handle for a straightening hammer from a paduk. This wood is noteworthy in that it almost does not warp and is very stable after drying. Give the pen the desired shape and cover with mineral oil.

When all the details of the hammer are ready (including the wedge), you can proceed to the "assembly" - we put the head on the handle, into which we then hammer the wedge. In general, we do everything the same as in the manufacture of a conventional hammer.
