You can chop walnuts at home with your hands or with a hammer, or with a simple mechanical device. In this review we will tell and show how you can make a simple home-made nut cracker from scraps of metal with your own hands in just 10 minutes.

The do-it-yourself walnut cracker has a fairly straightforward design. For this homemade product you will need two steel plates with a thickness of about 5-6 mm. They can be found without problems in the garage or in the trash of scrap metal.

The main stages of work

First, we cut off two steel plates of suitable length, after which we drill into them one hole with a diameter of 12 mm. Then we make the markup and cut off two unnecessary pieces (we make the cut with a grinder at a slight angle).

At the next stage, two round metal handles are welded to the two resulting workpieces. In one of the halves of the walnut, we cut out an unnecessary piece of a triangular shape.

Next, we weld a piece of the corner 15x15 mm with a slight offset to the side into the formed slot. After that, we connect the two parts together using a bolt with a nut. The result is a very simple and convenient nut cracker made from scraps of metal.

However, with regard to convenience, everything is individual here. It’s easier for someone to chop nuts with a hammer, and someone else will be happy with such a device.
