For many car owners, replacing a leaking camshaft seal is associated with a rather tedious procedure that is time consuming. However, this element can be replaced much faster than it seems - with minimal disassembly of the car engine.

To get the camshaft oil seal, it is not necessary to remove the valve cover. It is enough to use an ordinary screwdriver and two self-tapping screws for this. The procedure for dismantling the seal will not take much time. Just 2-3 minutes, and the gland will be in your hands.

The main stages of work

For convenience, you can remove the timing belt cover (however, this is not necessary at all - you can easily remove the camshaft seal without removing the cover). By the way, it would be nice to have at hand a special mounting bracket-conductor, with which you can fix the camshaft gears on the engine, which greatly simplifies the reverse installation of the timing belt.

After the cover has been removed, it is necessary to screw two screws on the sides of the stuffing box with a screwdriver (or with an ordinary screwdriver). Please note that sometimes the seals are very hard and even a self-tapping screw cannot "drill" into them. In this case, you can drill a small hole first, and then screw the screw in.

The screw must be tightened extremely carefully so as not to scratch the camshaft and cylinder head. Otherwise, a simple procedure will result in costly repairs. When two screws were screwed on the sides, we pull the hats with pliers and remove the stuffing box from the seat socket.
