If you have a burning desire to make a good classic knife for a home collection or as a gift, but don’t know what material to choose for its manufacture, then opt for a spring from the car.

The first step from the spring will be to cut off a piece of suitable length with a grinder. The master welds a piece of reinforcement to it. Then heats the workpiece in the gas furnace red-hot, and then gives it the desired shape on the anvil.

The next step is to cut off the reinforcement from the tail of the workpiece. Then the workpiece must be sanded to the desired thickness on a belt grinder.

The process of making a simple classic knife

The following is the standard procedure for processing a workpiece for a knife: making slopes, oil quenching, tempering, blade sharpening and polishing. For polishing, the master uses a polishing wheel for the grinder.

After that, it remains only to make a wooden handle - for this a whole piece of wood is used. Further, the master cuts out a bolster from a brass plate, which sets between the handle and the blade.

For gluing metal with wood, the master uses epoxy. For more information on how to make a classic knife from a car spring with your own hands, we recommend that you look in the video on our website.
