Lugs on a walk-behind tractor from old VAZ drives

For normal operation of the walk-behind tractor on loose soil, lugs are required. In the factory version, they are inexpensive, but if you do them yourself, they will cost almost free of charge. At the same time, self-made lugs are much stronger than purchased.

Materials:

• 2 car wheels;
• corner 32х32х3.

Ideally, use stamped wheels from any old VAZ car. Their mounting holes usually coincide with the holes on the cutter shaft plate of most Chinese walk-behind tractors. Thanks to this, it will be possible to use the half shaft from the mill as a hub, fixing the lugs on the gearbox.
Rims are cut off from the discs using a grinder.
The result is a fairly narrow lightweight wheels. If they are not cut, then the lugs will be too high, so insufficiently wide walk-behind tractors will lose stability, since the center of gravity will strongly shift up.
To make hooks on trimmed discs, you need to cut a corner.
Its segments are reliably welded to the first wheel not evenly, but with a slight bias of 1 cm.
The gap between the corners should be 3 cm. The presence of a bevel on the hooks will allow them to self-clean if the soil is wet.
On the second wheel, when welding the corner, you should also shift by 1 cm, but at the opposite angle. If this is not done, then when moving the walk-behind tractor will go to one side and it will be difficult to keep it level.
For the direct installation of lugs on a walk-behind tractor, it will be necessary to disassemble the first section of a standard factory cutter that comes complete with a walk-behind tractor. Knives are removed from it, and the shaft is screwed to the wheels through the mounting plate. To do this, apply the bolts that were used to attach the knives. As a result, the wheels receive hubs and can be installed on the motor-block gearbox.
If the holes on the cutter shaft and the wheels do not match, then the wheels will have to be slightly modified. To do this, you need to weld a thick steel plastic into them and drill it under the hub from the cutter.
In the future, if you need cutters, you will need to remove the axle shafts from the wheels. Such lugs will prove to be excellent on sandy and soft soils. On good black soil, they work only in dry weather. If moisture appears, then the spikes, despite the bevel, are still clogged by the swamp.
